Holyrood to share its ATIPPA requests info

By Mark Squibb/February 3, 2022

The Town of Holyrood will begin posting its answers to Access to Information and Protection of Privacy (ATIPP) requests online.

“Due to the nature of ATIPP, Access to Information and Protection of Privacy, it’s supposed to be transparent, so we are going to put a motion through that every time the Town of Holyrood receives an ATIPP request, that once the information comes to light, we are going to post it on our website,” said councillor Laura Crawley. “We will follow through the legal process to make sure what needs to be redacted will be redacted to protect privacy concerns. But, if one person is looking for it, that means probably more people are looking for it.”

The motion passed unanimously.

“To me this is a no-brainer,” said councillor Steve Winsor, who added the better the job a town does at communicating to its residents, the less need there will be for information requests.

The information posted will include a summary of the request received, a copy of the final response letter to the applicant with all personal information removed, and a copy of any records provided to the applicant.

There will, however, be some ATTIPPA responses that won’t be posted. Crawley said requests where it is too complex to complete the appropriate redactions prior to posting it online, for example, will not make it to the website, now will general requests where the applicants’ personal or business information is found throughout the documents.

Crawley clarified her motion to say that the Town’s responses to requests for personal information will not be posted.
