Paradise parks getting a bit brighter

By Mark Squibb/December 9, 2021

The Town of Paradise is getting brighter and brighter — or at least some of the parks are.

Council Tuesday approved installation of lights at the Milton Road softball pitch and solar lights at Paradise Park.

The call for tenders closed December 1, and the town received two bids — one from Eastern Contracting Ltd., at $57,810 and the other from Can-am Platforms & Construction Ltd., at $84,903.

The Town awarded the contract to the lowest bidder, Eastern Contracting Ltd. Council had budgeted $100,000 for the installation of the lights.

Councilor Glenn Carew asked whether the cost was for supply and installation or just installation. Town CAO Lisa Niblock clarified the price quoted was just for installation, as the town had previously purchased the lights. The price for the lights was not cited at Tuesday’s meeting.

Council voted unanimously to award the tender.

Milton Road came up later in the meeting as well, as councilor Larry Vaters noted he had heard complaints from residents about people speeding up and down the street.

Vaters said the biggest concern was that people were allegedly speeding past the bus that stopped to pick up students near the Trail’s End intersection each weekday morning.

Council discussed possibly asking the RNC to put the road on a list of areas to patrol.
