Paradise councilor thankful for community support following surgery

Councilor Elizabeth Laurie says she is grateful for the outpouring of support she has received in recent weeks following surgery.

“I’ve never brought it to council, though it’s been out in my private life, but I have been diagnosed with colon cancer,” said Laurie during last week’s public meeting. “I had surgery and am hopeful that it’s all gone and behind me now. But I still have some challenges ahead, for finding out about treatment and all of that, but my prognosis looks really well.”

Laurie extended special thanks to council and staff, but also to the residents.

“I received a lot of phone calls, and I think I’ve received close to a thousand messages, and that’s not exaggerating,” said Laurie. “I’m very lucky. Very lucky.”
