Town of CBS seeking input on recreation and cultural needs

By Staff/November 25, 2021

The Town of Conception Bay South has started work on a new Recreation and Cultural Master Plan to address activity and infrastructure needs within the community.

Council is holding a “public engagement process” to encourage residents to provide their input on how the Town can improve its recreational and cultural resources.

“Conception Bay South is the largest town in this province. With approximately 27,000 residents, we have a responsibility to respond to the growing needs of our community, and the best way for us to know what those needs are is to hear from our residents directly,” said Councilor Shelley Moores, who chairs the Town’s Recreation and Leisure Services Committee. “ That’s why a significant component of developing this plan includes consultation with our various stakeholders.”

Moores said the final draft of the plan is now complete and will be presented to the public on Thursday November 25 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at the Royal Canadian Legion, 60 Legion Road in Kelligrews. The presentation will include a review of existing programs and infrastructure and identify trends and opportunities that are unique to the town’s demographics, she added. It will consider the need for new facilities, increased open space, and increased opportunities for leisure and wellness activities.

All interested members of the public are invited to attend the presentation but must pre-register. For those unable to attend, the presentation will be streamed on the Town’s YouTube channel and made available on the Town’s website. Residents will have until December 21 to review the plan and submit their feedback online.

“Our town sits on the edge of nature – we’re surrounded by renowned walking trails, spectacular marinas, and sport facilities set along the ocean’s edge,” said Moores. “ We’re a world-class archaeology destination, a nature lover’s paradise, and we’ve hosted some of the most high-class recreation events this province has ever seen. We’re quite excited to see where this master plan takes us as we expand upon the needs of Conception Bay South.”

Moores said the master plan will enable the Town to build on its vision of being a family-oriented community of choice that provides an enhanced quality of life in a vibrant, evolving town.
