Read MorePrior to the puck drop for the start of an East Coast Hockey League game at the CBS Arena on Saturday, the “home team” Newfoundland Growlers presented the Town of Conception Bay South with a $15,000 cheque for local charities. It was gesture of gratitude for CBS coming to the Growlers’ rescue by supplying them with a home rink when the team was unexpectedly vacated from the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s because of a dispute with St. John’s city council. On hand for the presentation were, from left: Trevor Murphy and Cody MacDonald of the Growlers, CBS Mayor Darrin Bent, and Ken O’Leary, also of the Growlers professional sports club.
