The Town of Conception Bay South recently recognized a number of local small businesses at its annual Bright Business Achievement Awards ceremony.

The ceremony, now in its tenth year, was held at the Manuel’s River Hibernia Interpretation Centre on October 20 as part of Small Business Week celebrations.

“It’s great to see so many people back in this room again, and after so many years of not being able to come together,” said Conception Bay South mayor Darrin Bent in his opening remarks.

“Coming together to honor exceptional businesses throughout our town is a great way to start that off.”

Also in attendance were various members of council, and MP Ken McDonald.

Dozens of local businesses were nominated across eight categories.

The New Start Up of the Year was awarded to The Hangout, while Brian’s Autobody was awarded Downtown CBS Member of the Year. The Music Corner was awarded the Established Business of the Year, while Taylor’s Fish, Fruit and Vegetable Market took home the Community Pride and Partnership award. E-Raven Consulting was awarded the David Murphy Chamber Leadership award, while Beautiful Business of the Year went to Don Hennessey Ltd., in the multi-tenant category and to Aurora Estates in the single-tenant category. Krysta Slade of Musically Inclined was awarded the G. Noseworthy Award.

In the past decade, there have been 319 nominations and 64 award presentations.

The Town is currently involved in crafting a business attraction video.
