Paradise’s Archibald Drive to see upgrades

By Chris Lewis/September 23, 2021

The Town of Paradise has awarded a tender for a major storm sewer project.

Archibald Drive is one of the main access points for pedestrians heading to the Adam’s Pond trail. On Tuesday, council voted on a storm sewer project slated for that same street.

Councillor Deborah Quilty said new housing is being built near the road, which she anticipates will increase vehicular traffic there.

As such, a request for proposals for engineering services was issued to prepare plans for road upgrades, including an underground storm sewer system, curb, gutter, and sidewalks in order to address the expected additional traffic.

That request closed on Tuesday, Aug. 10 with six different submissions having been received by the Town.

Quilty put forward a motion to award the engineering services contract to Progressive Engineering and Consulting Services Inc., who she said was the top ranked bidder with its offer of $122,569, including HST.

That amount fee, she added, includes allowances for legal and topographic surveys.

“The Town has budgeted $90,000 for 2021 for this work. Town staff do not anticipate reaching the full budgeted amount this year, and the 2022 capital budget for this project will have to include the remaining project construction costs to completion,” Quilty noted

The motion to approve the contract carried unanimously.
