Bay Roberts begins budget process ahead of 2021 budget

The Town of Bay Roberts is gearing up towards Budget 2021

The Finance Committee will present council with a proposed budget and tax structure on December 8, but the behind-the-scenes work has already begun.

Council will meet on Oct. 14 for an initial pre-budget meeting, in which they will brainstorm and discuss priorities prior to staff review. Following that meeting, staff will review their budgets and, taking the discussion into account establish a preliminary budget for consideration on Nov. 6. After this, the Finance Committee will meet to review all input and prepare a draft budget for council. During meetings scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18, council will review operational and capital budgets with departments heads.

Mayor Phillip Wood noted that most taxes were paid before the pandemic struck in March.

“Will we be advertising for public input?” asked deputy mayor Walter Yetman, and Wood responded in that they would.

Chief Administration Officer noted that the Town would be looking for input perhaps between the initial meeting on October 14 and the November meetings.
