The Holyrood RCMP are investigating the theft of a grey 2008 GMC Sierra truck, as well as thefts from vehicles at Hickey’s Timber Mart in Harbour Main which occurred sometime before noon last Friday.
A number of vehicles parked outside Hickey’s were entered and had items stolen, said Staff Sergeant Richard Marshall. The stolen truck was a business vehicle, clearly marked with Hickey’s Timber Mart. It was recovered a short time later nearby without any obvious damage.
Due to the time of day and location, the police believe there may be witnesses to the incident. Anyone with information regarding it is asked to contact the Holyrood RCMP at 229-3892, or anonymously by calling 1-800-222- 8477.
On Monday, RCMP officers with the Holyrood detachment had to deal with another out of the ordinary incident.
At approximately 5:00 p.m. the RCMP received a call from a concerned motorist about a vehicle that was traveling at dangerous speeds on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Police officers responded by conducting a patrol and located the vehicle traveling in excess of 151 kms per hour. The weather was poor at the time with rain, fog and wet road conditions.
The driver was issued a ticket for speeding more than 51 kms per hour above the posted speed limit. His driver’s licence was suspended and his vehicle was impounded.
The RCMP are warning of the dangers of driving at excessive speeds and say they will continue enforcement efforts of aggressive drivers to help keep the highways safe.
