Town’s reputation in ‘Rec’ riding high

Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador has recognized the Town of Conception Bay South for its high quality sport and recreation programs to children by according it the High Five Leadership Award.

The award was presented at Rec NL’s annual awards banquet held in Gander this past Saturday. High Five is a registered series of programs offered through the umbrella organization.

Ward 1 councillor Darrin Bent said he was honoured to attend the event and to bring home “the hardware” in the form of a plaque, which he presented to the Town’s Director of Recreation and Leisure Services, Dave Tibbo.

“It’s very impressive because I know how hard our recreation and leisure department staff work in trying to expand positive experiences for young people in the town,” Bent said. “To be chosen in this province as being the leader in High Five and in helping young children of all ages and abilities have positive experiences through recreation programs and all kinds of different programs in the town, I think is a great honour.”

Bent said the department is looking forward to expanding its offerings to include the High Five Silver program, which is designed for “active, older members of the community. So we’re truly leaders in the High Five programing,” Bent said.
